Work to do before your New Hire first day:
Draft an agenda for the first day as per his/her role like demos and one on one meetings.
Workstation preparation like computers, phones and other equipment.
Create email id, communication tools, relevant software and HRMS
Schedule introduction of new hire with the team members.
On your new employee’s first day
Welcome and Orientation: Greet new hires and give a tour of the office. Introduction with the team members.
HR and paperwork: Get done with paperwork quickly. Review company policies and procedures and explain benefits and enrollment process.
Technology Orientation
Walk through computer setup and software usage. Provide training on internal communication tools (email, chat, etc.).Explain how to access and use the company intranet.
Company policies and Workplace rules
Describe your workplace rules (e.g. hours, breaks, use of lockers and key)
Describe the types of leave the new hire is eligible for (sick, vacation, etc) and when the new hire can begin going on leave.
Explain your requirements for remote work, if relevant.
Explain your performance review process.
Ask new hires to review and sign any non-disclosure or confidentiality agreements.
Role specific training
In this hiring manager explains roles and team structure to the new hires. Here’s what hiring managers should include in role-specific trainings:
Describe the new hire’s tasks (e.g. a typical day at work.)
Present job-specific tools that the new hire will use.
Display and explain reports that track the team’s KPIs.
Explain the roles of different members on the team and how the new hire will work with them.
Present business objectives related to the new hire’s position and team.
Schedule regular one-on-one meetings with the new hire.
Schedule introductory one-on-ones meeting between the new hire and team members.
